Technology to Increase Sensitivity and Speed of Diagnostic Tests
A fast, inexpensive and straightforward method to detect and identify pathogens (bacteria or fungi) present at even exceedingly low copy numbers in blood or tissue samples has been developed by scientists at Oxford University. They expect the technology to enable correct diagnosis and same-day initiation of treatment. It is envisaged that kits with the appropriate reagents and information may be produced to allow diagnostic laboratories to easily follow the straightforward protocol. This technology will be of interest to companies involved in the production of bacterial or fungal diagnostic products. Read more |
Miniature Motor Opens Up New Device Possibilities
Compact high-precision motors from New Scale Technologies are suitable for an array of medical device applications including robotic surgical devices, endoscopes, implantables, and drug-delivery systems. Nonferrous versions can be made for use in high-magnetic (MRI) environments. The motor accepts direct 2.3 to 5.5 V dc battery power and uses patented full-bridge switching technology to create the ultrasonic motor drive frequency. Built-in smart drive features optimise motor performance while minimising power consumption. Read more |
